Homemade Almond Butter: Easy Recipe

Some grocery store items are incredibly difficult to replicate at home, like cheese puffs and peanut butter filled pretzels. However, making almond butter is surprisingly easy.
While the process of making nut butter itself is simple, many store-bought nut butters contain preservatives, coloring agents, and flavoring agents to extend their shelf life. These additions can add unnecessary sugar, fat, and non-food ingredients that your body doesn't need.
With a food processor or blender, you can make your own healthy almond butter right at home. You can even customize it with different flavors and ingredients.
To make nut butter easier to digest and absorb, soak the nuts overnight before blending. Simply cover the nuts with water and refrigerate overnight. Drain the nuts before blending.

Homemade Almond Butter

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 cups raw organic almonds
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup or honey, plus more if desired
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt
  • 1 cup raw cacao nibs, crystallized ginger or favorite seeds (optional)
Directions
Process the almonds in a food processor for about 5 minutes, or until they form a large ball. Press the almond mass into the blade and process for another 5 minutes. Scrape the bowl and continue processing. It may take up to 15 minutes, and the processor may smoke. Scrape the bowl and allow the processor to rest occasionally. Once the almonds are smooth, add maple syrup or honey and continue to process.
Pulse in the cacao nibs, crystal ginger or seeds until combined.
How to Make Your Own Almond Butter
Transfer the almond butter to a clean container, like a pint-sized jar, and let it cool completely before sealing it and storing it in the refrigerator.
Homemade almond butter is best consumed within one month, but can be stored for a few more months.
